Os judeus, convidados a imigrar para a Lituânia por Gediminas, constituíam 40% da população de Vilnius no início do século passado. Napoleão, bastante impressionado com a cidade, a chamou de ‘Jerusalém do Norte’, alcunha que passou a identificar Vilnius dali em diante.
